Monday Sept 15th, 2014
On Sept 15th - Our amazing PTO is bringing Rachel's Challenge to Grant Elementary. The students will attend an assembly that is a fun, energetic, inter-active assembly that mixes music, video and activities to introduce or remind elementary students of Rachel Scott and her challenge to reach out to others with deliberate acts of kindness. Students will learn about a young girl named Rachel; however they will not hear or see footage related to the Columbine tragedy or her death. The assembly will focus on 5 challenges.†
1. Use Kind Words & Do Kind Things
2. Accept & Include Others
3. Choose & Be a Positive Influence
4. Set Goals & Keep a Journal
5. Continue the Chain Reaction
Later that night at 6:30 PM, the community (parents and older students (7th grade and above)) are invited back to attend an event that focuses on how we too can help make our world a better place. For more information visit:http://www.rachelschallenge.org/
I would like to announce our newest 4th grade teacher --- Stephanie Leeds! She just finished her student teaching with us at Grant and will be an amazing addition to our team. She replaces Joanne Johanson who took a job teaching ESL at Eastmont High School.
Please Welcome our 2 newest teachers to Grant:
3rd grade: Brenna Thomson
4th grade: Cassie Manring
Both will be great additions to our staff!!! A few other changes are as follows:
Intervention Specialist: Sandi Jeffris
Intervention Specialist (.5 Kenroy/.5 Grant): Cynthia Lutz
Teacher Appreciation Week!
Grant sure knows how to celebrate!! Thank you to Mrs. Nelson who made this AMAZING train for us today!! And a HUGE thank you to ALL staff and the PTO for the treats this week. Teachers have felt appreciated each and every day!
Fancy Friday was a HUGE hit coupled with RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) - where each child at Grant took home a new book to keep! A HUGE THANK YOU to PTO who funded the event!!
We are implementing a "structured" recess. Rather than having kids sitting on the wall or keeping them inside for poor behavior/choices, we will have an area where students will walk, supervised, during recess time. This will give them the fresh air and exercise they need in a controlled environment.
